Free office space for start-up firms

Back-bedroom-based start-up businesses by young Norfolk entrepreneurs are being offered the chance of a free office for a year.

It is part of a scholarship programme set up by the Norfolk Charitable Trust which will see three start-ups offered prime office space free of charge for a year and then at a 50pc reduced rate in the second year.

The Space Exclusively for Young Business scheme is worth about £15,000 to each business.

The office space would be at Arminghall Place in Norwich and will be free of rent, rates and power and heating costs.

Laura Foster, head of the Norfolk Charitable Trust, said the aim was to allow small businesses to invest funds into their company that would be otherwise spent on rent and utilities.

“These could be small existing businesses ready to move out of their founder's back bedroom and into the wider world, or simply a business that has been fully planned and is now ready to start operations.

“Very often, initial overheads are too high for these small companies to survive and, particularly in today's tough economic climate, we want to help new enterprises get off to a sustainable start,” she said.

Anyone who would like to be considered for the scheme can contact the trust on 07887 875176.
